SAROVA LION HILL LODGE - LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK, KENYA

Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, Lake Nakuru:
Situated in the heart of Kenya's Rift Valley is Sarova Lion Hill Lodge, nestling on the banks of one of East Africa's most famous soda lakes, Lake Nakuru. Avid bird watchers can feast on the spectacular display of its famous flamingo residents. Lake Nakuru National Park not only boasts one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles, with over 450 species of birds, but is also sanctuary to the greatly endangered black rhino and a host of other wildlife species such as the leopard, waterbuck, lion, giraffe, buffalo and giraffe. The lake hosts thousands of flamingoes which create a breathtaking shimmering pink hue over the lake.

From the comfort of one of the 64-chalet style rooms, Sarova Lion Hill Lodge offers a unique vantage point overlooking the Lake and the distant hills. Enjoy the panorama from the privacy of your own verandah. For extra special occasions Lion Hill also has one honeymoon suite and two luxury suites. For conferences with a difference, there are up-to-date facilities acoomodating upto 70 people. Other facilities include a restaurant, bar with a large viewing deck, overlooking Lake Nakuru and the distant hills, swimming pool, sauna, laundry service, curio and gift shop.

Set on a plateau in the Rift Valley, overlooking one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles, Lake Nakuru, stands Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. The panoramic view from the Lodge reveals a shimmering pink glow across the Lake, created by millions of flamingos, pelicans and marabou storks; the landscape blossoms natural foliage and a startling variety of flower gardens.

Sarova Lion Hill Lodge Facilities :
There are 65 rooms to select from to suit your needs, all which come with an attached bathroom and have running water and electricity:
-      38 Twin rooms
-      5 Double rooms
-      21 Triple rooms
-      1 Honeymoon suite
-      All bedrooms have verandas with panoramic views of the flamingo pink-rimmed lake.
-      Flamingo Restaurant serves meals on the ground floor; a patio is available at the pool. A buffet is served for lunch. Dinner table d'hote with a seating capacity of 200 people. Rift Valley Bar on the ground floor overlooks the lake, and is open from 7.00 am. to 11.00 pm.
-      For conferences, Baraza Room on the ground floor is perfect; it is large airy room designed in earth colors and adjacent to a separate lounge. Audio-visual equipment and secretarial assistance is available. The capacity is 80 theatre, 150 cocktail and 40 seminar style.
-      Swimming pool and sauna are open from 6:00 am. to 6:00 pm.
-      Traditional dancers display their talent everyday at 9.00 pm.

Mt.Kenya

Mount Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain at 5,199m (17,058 feet) and the highest of all Kenya Mountains. Mount Kenya is roughly circular, about 60km across at the 200mm contour, where the steep font hills rise out of the gentler slopes of the centered highlands. At the centre of the massif, the main peaks rise sharply from around 4,500m to the main summit of Batian 5,199m, Nelion 5,188m and point Lenana 4,985m. Other major summits on the mountain include Point Piggott 4,957m, Point Dutton 4,885 and Point John 4,883m. Of the three main peaks (Batian, Lenana and Nelion), only point Lenana can be reached by trekkers and the other two being only for technical climbers.

Africa's highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro stands on featureless part of the East African plateau, on the Tanzanian side of the Kenya border near Moshi, side by side with the smaller Mount Meru. These mountains are extinct volcanoes, with Kilimanjaro actually being the agglomeration of three distinct volcanoes, Kibo (5896m/ 19,340 ft), Mwenzi (5,149 / 16,896 ft) and Shira (3,962m / 13,000 ft). whose violent creation is geologically associated with the creation of the Great Rift Valley, 100km to the West.

Mount Meru is Mount Kilimanjaro's little sister, standing at 4,566m compared to 5,895m, but is still an impressive freestanding volcano, which makes a superb four day climb to the top. It last erupted in 1910 therefore can be classified as an active volcano. The first Mount Meru ascent was made by Dr. Fritz Jaeger, 1904. The town of Arusha lies at the base of Mount Meru Trekking, loads of trek companies do this trek. Wild animals are frequently found on this mountain therefore an armed ranger usually accompanies the trekkers.
